wow steve-peace. i forgot about the "war is over if you want". so simple and poignant. From one of the greatest prophets of the 20th centuary.

On a lighter note, my favorite funniest quote is from one of the greatest folk artists Roy Harper.
"Life is such monotony without a good lobotomy"
as regards people who refuse to perceive reality.

I believe the original of the quote is worded as below

"The world cannot know peace, until the power of love overcomes the love for power"

and then one of my favorite quotess..im not sure if it is a hippy quote but it is good enough

"Peace Cannot be achieved through violence, it can only be attained through understanding"

"We are stardust, we are golden, we are billion year old carbon"-I forget where this one is from.

"Live simply so that others may simply live"- it was on a tee shirt my friend has.

"Act justly, Love mercy, Walk humbly" - this one's actually a Bible verse. One of the only ones I like.

    No War Know Peace

People associate long hair with drug use. I wish people associated long hair with something other than drug use, like an extreme longing for cake. And then strangers would see a long haired guy and say, "That guy eats cake!" "He is on bundt cake!" Mothers saying to their daughters "Don't bring the cake eater over here anymore. He smells like flour. Did you see how excited he got when he found out your birthday was fast approaching?

It actually goes, "We are stardust, we are golden, and we've got to get ourselves back to the garden." It's from Joni Mitchell's Woodstock.

    "Think globally, act locally."

    (13) - sew on patch

I mean, I'm sittin' here on the group 'W' bench 'cause you want to know if I'm moral enough to join the army, burn women, kids, houses & villages after bein' a litter bug. - Arlo

We have met the enemy, and they are us - Walt Kelly

Understand that legal and illegal are political, and often arbitrary, categorizations; use and abuse are medical, or clinical, distinctions. - Abbie Hoffman

Take away the right to say fuck and you take away the right to say fuck the government. - Lenny Bruce

    Some of my favorites:

There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die. - Hunter S. Thompson (In Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas)

And that, I think, was the handle - -that sense of inevitable victory over the forces of Old and Evil. Not in any mean or military sense; we didn't need that. Our energy would simply prevail. We had all the momentum; we were riding the crest of a high and beautiful wave. So now, less than five years later, you can go up on a steep hill in Las Vegas and look West, and with the right kind of eyes you can almost see the high-water mark - that place where the wave finally broke and rolled back. - Hunter S. Thompson (In Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas)

I wouldn't recommend sex, drugs or insanity for everyone, but they've always worked for me. - Hunter S. Thompson (Not in Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas)

Maybe not strictly hippie quotes, but he was a genious for sure

'Imagine all the people, living in harmony-ooh hooooo' Lennon

On second thoughts, someone must've posted that already so...

'Well, I stand up next to a mountain
And I chop it down with the edge of my hand
Well, I pick up all the pieces and make an island
Might even raise a little sand' - Hendrix

This is one of my favourites:

"Only when the last tree has died
and the last river been poisoned
and the last fish been caught
will we realise we cannot eat money."

    Cree Indian saying
