Lets all post at least one truely hippie quote. Here are mine: "May you grow up to be righteous, may you grow up to be true. May you always know the truth and see the lights surrounding you. May you always be courageous, stand upright and be strong. May you stay forever young." "A man is a success if he gets up in the morning and gets to bed at night, and in between he does what he wants to do." "No one is free, even the birds are chained to the sky." "Take care of all your memories. For you cannot relive them." "I'll let you be in my dreams if I can be in yours" "He who's not busy being born is busy dying" "All I can do is be me, whoever that is." "This land is your land and this land is my land, sure, but the world is run by those that never listen to music anyway." "People seldom do what they believe in. They do what is convenient, then repent." "Yesterday's just a memory, tomorrow is never what it's supposed to be." All by my favorite inspiration, Bob Dylan.
"Feeling good was easy when he sang the blues, and feeling good was good enough for me..." From the Janis Joplin version of Me and Bobby McGee And from the Beatles' "Across the Universe": NOTHINGS GONNA CHANGE MY WORLD!
As time goes by, you will see That we're going to be free You and me, we'll touch the sky Can you see in your mind's eye That we are one We're all the same And life is just a simple game. -Mike Pinter
"How many times must the cannonballs fly before they are forever banned" "One pill makes you taller, one pill makes you small, and those that mother gives, you, don't do anything at all
its: One pill makes you larger And one pill makes you small And the ones that mother gives you Don't do anything at all
one of my favorites: "It seems to me that love is the most important thing in the world. It may be important to great thinkers to examine the world, to explain and despise it. But I think it is only important to love the world, not to despise it, not for us to hate each other, but to be able to regard the world and ourselves and all beings with love, admiration and respect." -Herman Hesse
"Excuse me while I kiss the sky." Jimmy Hendrix "Life is what happens while you are busy making other plans" John Lennon "Some of the worst mistakes of my life have been haircuts." Jim Morrison
Ring a bell that still can ring Forget your perfect offering There's a crack in everyhting That's how the light gets in
not really a hippy quote but i just finished watching ferris bueller's day off: "life moves pretty fast, if you don't stop and take a look around you just might miss it"
"When the power of love overcomes the love of power then the world shall know peace" Don't know if that's the actual words, but it's very similar
Castles made of sand slip into the sea eventualy. Jimi Peace will happen when everybody wants it. John I want to hear, I want to hear, the scream of the butterfly. Jim
this thread is so beautiful. i've copied some parts onto my computer, can you believe it. it's kinda short and old though, shouldn't reply to it. but i'started already so, i'll continue too. this stuff probably as deep as the hippy experience can get. here you trie to define the highest values you can have to live as a hippy. Have you tried DMT? Any revelations? Yes i have.......i laughed my pants off for about 20 mins.....Someone once asked Terence Mckenna, "what are the dangers of D.M.T?", to which he replied,"Dangers? Well i suppose one possible danger is Death by Astonishment!"..... and there i was being totally astonished to death......Beyond Astonishment....in fact, Beyond Death! it tickled me pink! when i came down, i thought i would never speak again...("words? what is the point in words? they are so limited!") so i am not so sure i agree with Terence's theory about psychedelics as a trigger for the evolution of language.... i met an entity who....er.....'showed me things'....um, i had Time explained to me.......the whole thing reeked of mystical/religious/near-death experience..... but i don't want to say too much, 'cos when i did it, i kinda wished i had heard nothing about it , before i took it..... this is from an interview with, i believe, psychedelic trance artist hallucinogen from shpongle, about his DMT experiences. he makes a comparison with the ideas of late tim leary follow-up terrence mckenna. a pioneer in the DMT experience. too me this (hallucinogen) is the most important psychedelic artist out there.... man, why do i know this stuff...
What if they held a war and nobody came? War is not healthy for children and other living things. Turn on, tune in, drop out. Got my own world to look through and I ain't gonna copy you. One generation got old, one generation got sold, this generation's got no destination to hold! Don't bogart that joint my friend.
"Let us not wallow in the valley of despair! I say to you today, my friends, that even though we must face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed--we hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal." --Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
well the one's in my sig are some great ones, i'll write them anyways. "turn of your mind, relax, and float down the stream." -just thinking those words always gets me in the perfect mood to relax. and "I am he, as you are he, as you are me, and we are all together" then theres "the day the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace." and "if everyone demanded peace instead of another television set, there'd be peace."
Of course there's "Turn on, tune in, drop out" And tha admirably simple "Let it grow". Says it all really. That along with "live and let live" epitomises the hippie ideals for me.
Limitless undying love which shines around me like a million suns, It calls me on and on across the universe Somewhere outside some place there is a rush of Greatness Silence tells me secretly everything Love your enemies. It makes them so damned mad. Who go about writing poems that happen to appear in their heads for no reason? You should be a hero to yourself. And if you weren't - check it out Don't just sit back, kick back, and watch the world get bushwacked. Has all kindness gone? Hope still lingers on... Why don't you hate who I hate, kill who I kill, to be free....? We All Shine On Okay not all of them are from the 60s and most of them I don't know who said because for me collecting quotes just doesn't matter who said it just that it was said. I tried my best anyway... anyway hi I'm new - first post
