I remember Murray the K's Swingin' Soiree. He had the latest releases during the 60s, as well as "blasts from the past", the golden oldies (like from the 50s!)

Speaking of Sports by the legendary Howard Cossell, before he became a bigtime national figure, early-mid 60s. Back when I actually gave a shit about sports (pre 'Nam).

Allison Steele's show on WNEW (I think). She was the "night owl" and played great shit late at night including whole albums when they first came out.

Dr. Demento's great show which was always a nostalgia rush! I think it's still on, no?

I do remember the Howard Cossell sports show....but growing up in missouri it was damn near sacreligious not to follow the cardinals:) The only other recollection of radio I vividily remember is I got all my rock-n-roll music, from a little lone station out of Little Rock Arkansas....KAAY and they were only on the air at night....and this was AM radio mind you...long before the FM dial began to come into use.I layed in bed at night with a little transister radio and listened to the tunes which shaped the country.
Since I lived in the country music mecca at the time,Springfield MO,had the opportunity to be the Nashville of today, this is where all the syndicated country shows originated, but the local authorities and managers felt like the music industry would have tainted the good wholesome Southern Baptist image, with all the corruption that it would have brought with it.....so they moved east and Nashville was choosen.....and the rest is history as they say.

I ain't quite old enough to remember any of the true radio era..and all the syndicated classics that families gathered around the radio to listen to.

i remember dr demento and travis t hip. (ol travis is still arround on my favorite little kvmr one in a while). radio in the 50s and 60s was a lot of top 40 and i don't remember there being radio shows in that era as such. and fm playing politicly dangerous rock when it was first getting started. in those days my favorite station was kzap. dr demento was live out of some semi-local station up arround marysville or chico or seemed like it was.

oh early 50s there was wolf man jack out of l.a. with some super power station with it's transmitter over the border in mexico because the u.s. wouldn't let any station have that much power. xerv or something like that. then there was one other super power station in utah for a while.

i remember kpfa in berkley too. we used to be able to get them direct when the left end of the fm dial was all college stations and alternative everything. i guess kpfa is still arround. kvmr up in nevada city got started when people up our way could no longer get kpfa cause there were now too many other stations more powerful too close to it in frequency for us up in our mountains of light to pick it up.

kvmr's been arround 28 years now. i think i was up in oregon when they were getting started.

up there in portland i listend to kboo, a pacifica affiliate. my favority show on there was something called the witching hour, transitioning from the day of the sun to the day of the moon. bunch of other good stuff on there too.

when i was over in utah in the very early 70s there was something called john carlton's living room, that was a sterio store that owned a radio station and they would play whole alblum sides. any and every kind of music, but the whole sides of the alblum with everything that was on it.

    =^^=

the era of real radio plays, i mean a lot of them and a lot of air time being them. actual radio shows, not just dj's changing shifts, that was at least ten years before i was born, and i was born in the late 40s. just about the time television was starting to replace them.

The mighty -XERB. Used to listen to that station also. In the 40s I used to listen to the classic radio shows. No TV of course.

The Shadow =(Who knows the darkness that lurks in mens hearts; The Shadow knows."

    The Green Hornet.

The Jack Benny show. Accosted by a robber=" Your money or your life." Benny stands there with a thoughtful look. Robber says "Well?" Benny=I'm thinking, I'm thinking!"

On Saturday mornings= Let's Pretend= Plunk you magic twanger, FROGGEEE! And off they'd go with some tale for kids.

    Mr and Mrs North-detectives.

Inner Sanctum==Scary tales!! (used to listen in the dark.)

    Allens Alley=

Fibber McGee and Molly--( always opened a closet with loud results. (not too exciting.)

    Our Miss Brooks.

JACK ARMSTRONG. JACK ARMSTRONG-All American Boy!

Gramma listened to- soap operas during the day.

I sat in Grammas brand new '49 Ford and listened to Gospels from LA at night. Sounded like rock 'n Roll---before R& R.

    ( I remember Kathy Fiscus.)

SiriusXM has a station called Radio Classics, channel 82 for anybody who has satellite radio. They play radio shows from the 1930's - 1950's. Jack Benny, Gunsmoke, The Shadow, old Detective stories, Jimmy Stewart, Groucho Marx, etc.

I travel all over the west coast, Nevada, and Arizona for work. I'm allowed to fly but usually prefer to drive so not uncommon to spend up to 8 hours a day on the road two or three days a week. I listen to Radio Classics 90% of the time. The dialog is priceless.

From when I was kid Archie Andrews, The Clitheroe Kid, Saturday morning with Uncle Mac, The Goons which can be found on you tube, it was a big starting point for Spike Milligan, Peter Sellers, Harry Secombe and Michael Bentine, Michael left later on, the sad thing there all now dead.

The last time I heard Dr. Dimento radio show was back in the 80s during my high school days. It came on late Sunday nights on our local rock station, WXKE Rock 104, right after Metal Shop. Not sure if it’s still around though.

i remember doctor demento. i remember barron landscapes broken hours. i remember the omnium gatherum over the (something clever name) garage. (which i always in my mind associated with jerry cornelios mobius' "airtight garage" in heavy metal)
also thistle and shamroc and celtic cadence. its kind of been that long since i've listened much to radio. i'm either on the internet, on the computer making something, reading or sleeping and making things in my dreams. i remember markus tepe's thing, transition from the day of the sun to the day of the moon, i think he called it the witching hour.
there was dead air, which played greatful dead albums. mostly radio i listened to kvmr in nevada city california, and kboo in portland oregon. occasionally npr, but more often pacifica affiliated local independents on "the left end of the dial". world beat was another kvmr classic. oh and hearts of space. absolutely hearts of space was my favorite ever.
also when i was in the air force in utah, there was a program that played nothing but whole album side. it was called, jim or john or something like that, carlton's living room.
i forget the call letters of the station it aired on. it may have been one of those pioneering fm stereo broadcasts. i remember there being station that was one who's motto was the station that made you glad you have two ears. that may have been the one here in reno that had travis t hip. (who i think managed to get himself in some kind of trouble for his political activisim or something, and i haven't heard from in around three decades now.) there was a captain carrot, who was a natural vegitarian foodie. the station that played dr demento in my part of the world, was the one in chico california, i forget the name of now too. it was a regular commercial station, as was, the other one of those i listened to was kzap.

(not sure how much of this i may have already said in a previous post)

    Damn I'm old.
I thought it'd be about the old time radio shows I listen to

They're before my time but I love The Aldrich Family.
    "Hen-reee! Henry Aldrich!"
    "Coming Mother!"

Same with me I’m a big fan of old-time radio, and yet by the time I was born there wasn’t a single show left on the air
with the exception of the CBS Radio Mystery theatre.

    The Shadow
    X-Minus One
    Lights Out
    The Mysterious Traveler
    Suspense
    The Great Gildersleeve
    I love a Mystery
    Dimension-X
    The Green Hornet
    The Whistler
    Inner Sanctum
Mystery in the air w/ Peter Lorre
    Nero Wolf
    The Life of Riley
