large towns are dysfunctional. medium towns are dysfunctional. it's the people, really. if want a place that isn't dysfunctional, get rid of all the people.
I don't think this is about being a man or a woman. Also remember, Scott Peterson probably had a whole different judge, jury, etc. That makes a hell of a difference. I think it's pretty sick. This isn't just a justice issue though... I think something like this needs to be studied. Like dancerannie said, it happens more often than you think, I've heard stories like this for years now... I think it's a real issue, a real problem, and I don't think it's just "post pardom" I think this is something that needs to be talked about with little girls growing up. Rather than just talking about safe sex and the whole lot, I think girls need to be taught how to deal with situations like these. And, not just by schools or books, but by parents. It's horrible when some 16 year old girl gets pregnant and keeps it a secret because she feels she can't even tell her parents about it. Anyway back to the justice issue--- I think the government, and people individually as well, often try to draw lines...lines for things that really shouldn't have any. Like "well this is okay, but this isn't" Yes people are different, and in different circumstances and situations, but how is it going to work for another imperfect human to be able to judge and decide where to draw that line, and how a certain situation may be different from another? Just like I never understood the whole idea of temporary insanity, and people getting off for that. If you kill someone you're insane, no doubt. Obviously, their idea is if you pre-meditated it, you're just an evil person who has to pay for it, rather than if you just lost your head out of insanity and killed someone, you shouldn't be punished as severely. No. Whether it's pre-meditated or not, anyone who kills someone is NOT SANE. There needs to be less "ifs" in the justice system. "If you're insane" "if this" "if that" Because nobody can possibly judge that kind of stuff.
And I agree IronGoth, my god... you have to turn every fucking issue into "well if it were a man, we would be treated more severely" I've ALSO seen men who rape little girls, and beat their wives get off with the same less severe punishment as this woman did. It has NOTHING to do with the fact that she was a woman, it has EVERYTHING to do with the fact that the courts are just FUCKED. And that justice is fucked, FOR EVERYONE...not just for males, or females. We deal with our shit, and you deal with shit too... Stop trying to weigh out who has it fucking worse. It's getting old really fast. We understand your stance, we don't need to hear it 100 times a day. I think we're all pretty sick of it.
Blessings to sista/mama mynameiskc... lovin' & loved baby on the way soon!!! At least the universe provides love and comfort and cherishing care to souls back on the other side when they return home, even if it is just a brief stay on this earth plane.
RE: I've ALSO seen men who rape little girls, and beat their wives get off with the same less severe punishment as this woman did. Yes, it used to be that if you raped a family member the maximum they could sentence you to is probation. I am working with others to have this exemption repealed.
Yeah but Matt when a WOMAN murders a child it's cause she's depressed, society is so uncaring, gosh we should give her a big hug it's her baby hasn't she suffered enough kind of trip. When a man does it, he's obviously an inhuman monster who needs to be tossed into the darkest hole for the longest time possible.
First of all, by comparing to Scott Peterson... he basically committed a double murder. I'm not saying that the situation with the woman killing her baby is any better, or anything like that, but I'm saying you can't make excuses for this MAN anymore than you can the woman. Not to mention I think both of them should have gotten the same punishment. I don't care if you kill 1, 2, or 50 people, anyone who kills a person should be punished severely and equally. And I don't think you can throw this woman killing her BORN child in with abortion. I know many of you won't agree with me, but I find it much more grusome that this woman did this, rather than if she would have had an abortion right when she discovered she was pregnant.
RE: Not to mention I think both of them should have gotten the same punishment. I don't care if you kill 1, 2, or 50 people, anyone who kills a person should be punished severely and equally. And that's my only point. Anyone who reads more into that into any of this is in dire need of mental health professionals...
Your scared beacause hes right... lol if a man done this he would be put away for years...no questions asked
It's not that we're scared. We're just all sick and tired of IronGoth coming into the womens issues forum, starting threads about different news stories he looks up on the web, and then turning them into debates about what would happen to a man in the same situation. He's made his goddamn point already. And like A&O said, it's not about who has it worse. THE SYSTEM IS FUCKED. It fucks everyone, man woman and child. We're not scared. At this point, I think half of us are almost willing to commit murder ourselves if he starts with this "poor, pitiful man" shit again.
Thats right but men are fucked over alot more...Even if a woman starts domestic violence and the man retaliates the man is alot more likly to be the blame while the woman gets off happy, probably with compensation aswell. I could give a 1000 more examples but dont have the time.
You're making it more about the different consequences for men and women, than you are about that simple point I stated. And that's not reading into it, you've stated that several times already. I think that's why everyone on here is getting a little frustrated with this conversation, is not because of the actual topic and issue, but that you're making it out to look like all or most women will get away with things easier. That's not so, as I said before, the system is fucked, for everyone. Not just men, or women. Or Asians, or whites, or african americans, etc. For everyone. For everyone who is wrongly done, there is another person put in their place. For example, there have been racial discriminations in the work place, but then, other places, are insanely welcoming no matter what age, sex, or race you are. Just as, this woman may have gotten off too easily, but I'm sure another woman who has done the same thing, got what she deserved. Just as, some men who get away with rape, others are locked away. It really all depends on what that judge decides, or if in jury, what the jury decides, etc. Or how good of a lawyer you have, etc. Many things factor into this rather than just "she's a woman" PUH LEEZE.
I could give 1000 more examples on the reverse side too. You're not looking at it with a neutral unbiased opinion. If you were a woman, you'd probably be saying the same thing, only reversed. I, on the other hand, think it really sucks that everyone is always trying to make their life look worse. If it's not "oh well my car sucks more than yours" it's "well I'm a man and get treated more unfairly than 'you women' do" And I'm not just saying this towards men, but to everyone. Tell me why everyone always wants to make it look as if they have it harder? Wouldn't you rather rest easy thinking you probably have it better than most people do? That's my perspective anyway. I'm sick of all this "well women have it worse" or "men have it worse" ---or "minorities have it worse" etc etc etc. I think we're pretty much all in the same boat when it comes to how difficult things are. Face it, nothing is EASY for anyone. And if it were, well then it just wouldn't be life now would it. I care way more about starving, uneducated, orphan children than I do worrying about whether men or women *in general* have it worse.
