Where do I start? So many great minds to choose from: Hunter S. Thompson, The Dude, Chris Holmes, Jimi Hendrix, Keith Richards, everyone in Motley Crue when they still did drugs, Black Sabbath, Terrence Mckenna, Lemmy, George Carlin, Bill Hicks, etc.
THAT is the true role model for sure. I agree 100% with you. I have nothing but complete awe and respect for someone who was previously addicted to an addictive drug (either stimulants, opioids, benzos, or alcohol) and no lives in abstinence, under strict use of only prescribed drugs (such as Methadone Maintenance or Suboxone Therapy), or can LEGITIMATELY practice moderation. I honestly don't know if I could ever get to that point. I am close: I no longer abuse opioids at all (just take my prescribed Suboxone), I reduced my benzo use to solely therapeutic levels, and do not binge on Adderall as much. But I still enjoy insufflating Adderall, which, of course, is blatant abuse of the drug!
prolly cause his drug habit killed him... i dunno though.. i wouldn't say he's someone i look up to when it comes to using drugs. he is a hell of a musician though, that's for sure
I have to disagree with you. I dont think his drug habit was his downfall, I feel it was his overall life style.
I think that this thread shows a pretty dangerous celebrity fixation, and how "role models" really do seem to act like that, just like the fanatical mother's groups would tell you. Making music or whatever does NOT make someone a role model, unless you want to be a homeless waste.... because ONE TIME in the history of the world a junkie turned out to be jerry garcia, means that he's a role model? Never mind that drug use like his leads people every day, in your own neighborhood, to sleep behind the dumpster, and occasionally die behind the dumpster? Fuckin' seriously....
