I'm pretty excited that i've finally decided to go ahead and start studying this field i've always found weather stuff interesting and I'm planning on starting my associates in science next winter. Anyone out there have a degree in this field?
Back in the day I studied meteorology as part of geography and earth sciences. Interesting stuff. I don't know what it's like now but then, any local, national or international met office was more than happy to send info regarding anything a student asked for.
It would be a good field... If you get a job with the National Weather Service you can be wrong all the time and still get paid.
Yea it would be nice to work in a field where you only have to be right 30% of the time. I had a teacher a few years back, who was studying meteorology himself. He switched fields when he realized that you have to have a Doctorate to get anywhere. They'll tell you that a bachelors is the "required minimum," but people in the field told him that he would never find any (decent) work if he didn't have a Doctorate.
I am a little nervous about that honestly I do want to pursue a masters and such in the field but I also don't want to spend thousands of dollars on getting a bachelors degree and then not be able to find a job.
haha i'm debating on whether or not I should ever really grow up honestly but I figure in order to get a job that would make me happy I should a little bit maybe if i get in with the right people I could expose the weather machine and all the secret government b.s. but idk how long I would live after said exposure lol
