As an American I've always found British humor to be better. Our humor is often pretty basic.

British humour is an international treasure.

Like Greek/Turkish/Italian cuisine, or Russian literature

What's basic about American humor? I think that each is fitting to thier respective culture, but I don't see where British humor is better.

Stephen Fry makes a good point (not for the first time) It's less about the humour per se and more about the characters that we identify with as part of our national identity that make for British-style humour. Our comic heroes are pathetic, tragic, thwarted and often deeply flawed, whereas American comic heroes tend to be objects of aspiration- quick with a line, always one step ahead of the game etc. Brash vs. self deprecatory.

I think the former is more fertile ground for comedy. But then, I'm British.

You'll understand once you lose your empire ;)

i keep hearing that british comedy is superior, but then i try to watch it and it's always some guy sitting there saying "i'mmumblemumblebangermumblemumblewiththatbirdmumblemumblehahahahahahaha...mumblemumblemumble"

maybe it's just going over my head, but if that's what they find funny in england, i'd rather be a dumb american.

I like some British humor (Benny Hill, Are you being served, Fawlty Towers, & Monty python's flying circus) but there also a lot I don’t like.

Watching the guy in the video in the OP was a bit like watching the movie Trainspotting, like I'm sure they both have artistic merit but I'll never know for sure because they may as well be speaking Greek

    Where's that post btw?
I'm not trying to hijack this post by any means! I do have the tendency to go overboard though!
