It's one thing to have "records of royalty" and a completely different thing to actually not have any solid proof, other than poems and whatnot.

But people are free to believe what they want to believe.

I'm feeling frustrated. Can't drink. Can't get high. Waiting to get out to my life-drawing class tonight so I can let rip with some charcoal and expend some energy.

Godamn Sky news has started a countdown to Brexit, down to the very second. The suspense is killing me.

    Boy, this asteroid is late.

That's how I feel too. It's just when peoples argumentation seems flawed that i have to give my 2 cents at the matter as well :p But I would not deny people their convictions any time soon.

What i mean with everybody has to descent from Noah is that all other possible archfathers drowned around that time. So if we take that story seriously everyone after it descents from Noah ;)
There is no reliable record that goes back to that time... obviously I would almost add.

Yes, you tell them the history of Santa and how his spirit is kept alive by helpers down thru the ages - How your parents helped to do that when you were a child, how you did it for them, how they will do it one day if they have children.

You encourage them by helping them donate a toy or other items to those in need.

Still, no one here will answer what are the "reliable" records of people that existed.

I can assure you that I have them in the family line that I've been speaking about.

Tell me what record you are looking for.

I recall from another ancestry thread you mentioned before how you traced your lineage back to a historical swedish or norwegian king but i forgot.. Was it Fairhair? Or Rognvald?

I come from a rural area. Our records are old church records....birth, baptism, marriages, and all that...It goes way back.
Btw priests used to have really lovely handwriting.

Even church records don't go aaaaall the way baaack...to explain the greek in me.
But given regional history, it's not that weird or surprising.

Most people can not trace back further than the 1500s. The ones who can are already rare. It helps if one descents from royalty because those genealogical records were important and the only ones that were actually kept in medieval times.
But one would still have to got the actual sources to go from your oldest genealogical record/historical family record to a medieval king to make the claim in all validity. This is also possible, just rare. Why? Because once your family tree branches up in non noble lines and its before the 1500s there's a large chance that 1) they weren't put on paper at all, and 2) they were lost before properly copied
I'm saying the 1500s but this is not ment in an absolute sense ;) It is just so that from roughly that time onwards more records of (the more meaninful) commoners were kept in north west Europe and some common people learned to write themselves.

I know you're talking about north west Europe, but yeah...church records.
Priests used to be among those rare educated people who could write and read.

My grandfather passed away a few years ago.
He barely knew how to write and read.

Here its also mainly birth, death and marriage notifications kept by the clergy and later other official instances/administrations. Its just so that in medieval times they only wrote down worthwile things here. So it generally goes back to the 1500s max. (unless you trace back to nobility) and that's if we're lucky.
