I've always been told throughout life that hippies are druggies, save the enviroment, and are peace lovers. Other than that I'm clueless. Please help wise hippie community of the hip forums! :&
respecting the rights and freedoms of all living creatures. living a life in harmony with all living creatures. there is the definition sited by salem blair, however, in my opinion live, love, and just try to be a good person.
Reading the definition of hippie won't help you understand hippies and they way of life. BTW Why do people have this need of defining things?
People have this need of system they can't live without it. I understand this clearly now when i'm sick and not in school i see people how are going work and school why doe's the do so? There's no animals that go work and have stress about it. System is a hell made by men.
I kind of like your responses, DSOTM, 'cause they are actually TO THE POINT which I intended to read about when I got on this thread. I liked what the Old Hippy (your quote) said about maybe the first hippies were the American Indians, too. And what he said about ... there's no real definition of what is a hippie ... but we all have our own ideas that sort of go along together. Also kind of like that idea about "spiritual maturity." And of course, ChildoftheRisingSun, you and your ideas are also part of "hippiedom!" ... Today we've been listening to music from old musicals of the 40's, 50's, and 60's. Really nice stuff in a sort of bombastic, hyped-up, theatrical way. It struck me how little THAT music is like NOW'S music, and how listening to music can take you back to "the spirit of the times" like nothing else. So ... get you some 40's, 50's and 60's music and listen to it ... the old, the hokey, the pitiful, the good, the bad, and the ugly ... it's one little idea, but it's all I'm postin' just now!
Usually people deifnate hippie about clothes and hair. But i don't think it's hippie to buy clothes becose other hippies have them.
If you have DISH Network, check out Sirius Music, Station: 933 --50's, 60's music (I think) ... continuous music, no DJ Station: 6006 --60's, 70's music ... DJ, no commercials for music of hippie days ... not ALL the music ... some of those songs are lost ... but a lot.
