I think a hipster, by definition, has to have a beard or mustache and appropriate sunglasses. I do not have any of the three, so, ... sadly, not a hipster. I do shop some of the places where you see them though. Farmers' Markets, Trader Joe's, Whole Foods. They seem to be pretty diet conscious to their credit, but more into beer than can possibly be good.
But I like craft ale and gluten free brownies... so what I mean is gay in the 2018 sense that being stereotyped, as anything, is redundant.
I think it's a personality. It's like your a hipster: you love whole foods, attend music festivals, wear sandals, do outdoorsy things. Maybe I'm off though. I'm not a hipster. I'm not an anything I guess.
a word can have different meaning to different people like for me my description of a todays generation of hipster would be someone who barely works...high chance they are on the public dole...but still tends to buy expensive clothes so they can look semi-professional while they post expert opinions on the internet forums and wait for their parents to die so they could get an inheritance and pretend their lives had meaning maybe throw in a few short visits to an "occupy" rally and of course craft beer with stupid names oh and they have to constantly complain about trump...and taxes ...which they dont even pay
Like about as much meaning as fixing tyres and brakes all day What is this obsession with doing a job I'm not going to reveal my circumstances and finances, but I'll never have to work again in my life And that feels good to me If you don't like it it's none of your business
Th OP greatly exaggerates the actual influence that hipsters have on pop culture and culture in general.
Hipsters are just a younger generation than me. Probably not many would identify themselves as such though. It's just a media angle.
Hipster? I think this might sum it up. The hipster subculture is stereotypically composed of younger and middle-aged adults who reside primarily in gentrified neighborhoods.[1][2] It is broadly associated with indieand alternative music and genres such as chill-out, folk, modern rock, pop rock, andpost-Britpop. Hipsters also frequently flaunt a varied non-mainstream fashion sensibility, vintage and thrift store-bought clothing, generally pacifist progressive and greenpolitical views, veganism, organic and artisanal foods, craft alcoholic beverages, alternative lifestyles, and snobbery. The subculture typically consists of mostly whiteyoung adults living in urban areas.[3][4] It has been described as a "mutating, trans-Atlantic melting pot of styles, tastes and behavior".
