http://blogs.abcnews.com/scienceandsociety/2007/12/glow-in-the-dar.html I want a dozen for my next party
This is creepy. It's not normal for a cat to glow, there have to be repercussions. What if it's radiation or something? I think they're eventually going to die.
I'm not into cloning or genetically modifying animals. Everything on the earth was created a certain way for a reason and there is no need to mess with that. Who really knows why these poor cats ended up "glowing". I just don't think it was nessasary.
In fact, the green fluorescent protein that they attach to a common cellular protein is completely harmless. It itself is a natural occuring molecule isolated from some kind of jellyfish. Someone I know used the protein to make an arsenal of rainbow colored fish. It was actually pretty cool, and the animals itself NEVER EVER have a downsided effect of it. (it's kinda the same principle from fireflies, that have the luciferase protein)
I think cats use stealthiness when they hunt, and we shouldnt take away from their natural condition imo. Dont know many hunting cats though.
why cant we all just get over glow in teh dark cats please. There is nothing special about glow in the dark. The only reason 'glow in teh dark' things are popular to people is because it was a significant technology for us to create artificial glow in teh dark. But the natural form, when fuelled by the body's resources, can easily acheive it. They find this glow int eh dark gene and they try to put in on everything,. across the last decade ive seen a handful of different newsreports on the successes and failures of scientists trying to make various animals glow. I though it would be better to try and find the sorts of genes that differentiate the fur colours of cheetas and tigers. Is the zebra skin gene very similar to tigerskin, or are they different? These are the things we really want in the world, not glow in teh dark fur but well tended animal specimins with exotic forms and colours.
the only way i would buy this is if i had a massive acid-hause party. with massive amounts of acid. and mushrooms. yay glow in the dark trippy shit.
That's the coolest thing I've seen in a while. Exactly. There's no radiation... I feel sorry for the kitties, though as they will probably be subject to many tests. Would be neat if they became a new breed, though.
This is true, although some older glow in the dark toys were actually radioactive (but the rays couldn't penetrate plastic, skin, paper, etc)
guys i dont think thats healthy for the cats besides, arn't normal healthy non glowing cats cute enouth?
