I like Starbucks, and they're trying to be very "green". They offer discounts for people who are using their reusable cups. I think they give a discount if you bring your own (it doesn't have to be a Starbucks one). I'm guessing their products are responsibly sourced, but I haven't researched it. There's always a disconnect in the labor practices of other countries. I think Starbucks is pretty decent though. They're not running a sweatshop in my eyes. I think that they could do more about landfills. If they made a genuine effort to have people on board for reusable cups we would see less cups in the trash.

I read about the Yosemite situation, but didn't delve too deeply into the article. I guess I'm too into the convenience aspect of having a Starbucks right there where I can get it to have any major objections.

Another clear-cut case of "I don't want this, therefore, those who do should be denied this."

America is just a total fucken asshole these days

    Star Bucks fills a niche,
    But its all fast food,
And just more agreeable to people,
Than first building a McDonald's there.
The idea this is not happening sooner or later,
Is a joke, but the protesters at least get to protest.
Without feedback, democracy as we know it is impossible.

lol So true, Noserider. I'm so over everyone protesting these days. If there's a decent, worthwhile cause, fine. But, people are really reaching these days.

They have no choice, but to reach,
Because they are clueless how democracy works.
Never even acknowledging their vote no longer matters,
And, what they require is to rethink their entire approach.
Everything they have been taught has turned out to be a lie.
Not exactly shocking news, but it takes time for people to adjust.

You're right. I don't see anything completely wrong with protesting, even this situation, but honestly? The best way to boycott something is to not buy the product, or give in to whatever it is that you're protesting. Buck the status quo. If those protestors want to cause meaningful change, don't buy Starbucks. But, it's kind of hypocritical to get in their cars, drive home, and the next morning, go to their nearest Starbucks for an espresso. As they scroll through their facebook feed at all the likes they're receiving from the pics they took, showing them at the Starbucks ''protest''. :expressionless:

    Comedy Censor

The only way to protest a non-existent system,
Is to joke em if they can't take a fuck,
And fuck em if they can't take a joke.
    Arguing over nonsense is nonsense,
But a good joke can throw an election.
Something to do, just to point out,
Who is in charge around here,
    Namely, nobody.
Fake news is indistinguishable from humor,
    Indistinguishable from pointing out,
Nobody is ever really home, and mocking the system,
Pointing out why its illegal to vote for Mickey Mouse.
And they are about to censor any fake news,
But, they can't censor every joke on the planet.
The cost of freedom in the free world keeps going up,
As everybody's sense of humor collapses into the gutter,
And they all run around protesting, that nobody ever listens,
Whilst insisting, that they can never find any good candidates,
And, the time honored solution, is to vote the bums out of office.

Ha! LOL at this one... If I was camping in the national park, I'd probably love to stop in to Starbucks and get a hot coffee after roughing it in the wilderness for a few days. It would be sweet relief... but if there was any decent coffeeshop there I would patronize it also.

If you don't want something don't get it or buy it. Expressing one's opinion seems to be a right in this country, as does protesting...

And now California has demanded we put labels on coffees stating they are cancerous... and I do not buy their reasoning. Breathing the air is worse for your helth in certain places.

    Edit:
This has to do with the commercialization of the national parks, but that's all I can say about it.

Excuse me for posting reasons for commercial interest in national parks.
I'll delete my post as it doesn't meet your approval, I'll be sure to consult you in the future before I make posts.

Reality is that the national parks have always had commercial concessions. Really, since the 1800s. Ever hear of the Harvey Girls? They were so famous a movie was made...

From Death Valley to the Grand Canyon Lodges and Inns, tot eh Grand Tetons, Yellowstone, Yosemite - all have huge corporations running all the concessions in the parks. Usually with a monopoly contract, which is how they sub-tenant other chains products into their park offerings.

In the past I have dealt with TW Services which ran EVERYTHING in Yellowstone.

cute. but I dont buy starcucks coffee.. Any company that would put rapfugeees before veterans dont deserve my business .. besides Ive never drank it before nor would I bother if they gave 100$ bills out with each cup..

If youre concerned about litter, go there and pick it up.

Sometimes, I think it might be a large franchise like SB that people have the issue with, like if a smaller private coffee shop opened up, would we see such outrage? I'm thinking not, that is just my opinion.

OK, now there is a real issue!

Yes I see their thinly veiled attempt at 'consciousness' by offering $2 reuseable cups, suggesting you keep it and reuse it during your entire stay...

And then what, throw it in the trash bin on the way out???

Yes, Starbucks is the evil empire...at it's worst. I don't buy the stuff either... I prefer smaller roasters with more variety of organic beans freshly ground. I am very particular about my coffee and travel with my own supply as needed :)

I suggest people do some research concerning national parks.

I did a short q&a on the National Park Service for my Poli-Sci/Environmental Science class, which focuses on policy.

For that, I think one would look to either the National Park Service or the Department of the Interior. The Secretary of the Interior is Ryan Zinke.
