A Black Hole Is ‘Almost on Our Doorstep’ Astronomers have discovered a black hole in one of the constellations, the suitably named Telescopium. At just 1,000 light-years away, the black hole is closer to our solar system than any other that astronomers have found to date. A thousand light-years might sound distant to us, but in cosmic proportions, it’s very close. For comparison, consider some of the best-known black holes in astronomy, the ones usually intriguing enough to make headlines. The black hole at the center of our Milky Way galaxy is more than 25,000 light-years away, and the black hole that astronomers captured in unprecedented detail last year lies 55 million light-years away, in another galaxy altogether. This one, by contrast, is so close that, on a clear night in the Southern Hemisphere, far from light pollution, the pair of stars that orbit the black hole can be seen with the naked eye. From here, the stars appear as a single pinprick of light.
Well. I'm off to bed. With only a few hrs until I need to start my shift. I don't care though. You can't wipe the smile off my face all year I reckon cause of that win. I just watched the whole replay on iracing. Textbook. Jeff Gordon himself would have been proud of that move.
It also bolstered my championship points lead. And! Leading the championship with a mark in the in column is so much more satisfying. barring bad races, I feel like I could leading the championship for a few more weeks after tonight. I had a 4 point lead, my bonus points were 6 today. Plus my closest competitors had bad races, but I think finished in top ten so I'm thinking.... I might be around 17 points in the lead, and that's about half a race field of 35 cars.
Well, yah, by definition a Black Hole that is a 1,000 lights years away is not going to swallow up anything here in the next 40-50 years.
