i know little about the czech republic beyond images of beautiful cities and what i know about the beer history :p

so what would you say would be some cool things to see if someone could have only one trip there in their lifetime?

Well I'd definitely recommend you to see the old Prague. Starting with Prague Castle and Charles Bridge (Charles IV, 14th century)

then all the beautiful "secret" places as Kampa and it's Lennon's Wall
    [IMG]

and then some other places in the Czech rep., such as Hluboka castle.

There are surely many other places you might want to see, but these are my favorite.

I understand the emigration. We went through really bad times in the 20th century.

Anyways I've always wanted to visit the US. But I never knew which state or city exactly.. but one day I hope to see the NYC and San Francisco. Aw...

Okie. So there are some places in the center of Prague which are not visited by as many tourists as for example the Prague Castle.
One of those is the New World which is like... Montmartre in Paris, but without the souvenir shops. There are theaters and extremely expensive restaurants :D

The next place I'd recommend You would be definitely the Petrin tower, from which you can see the whole city. It's our smaller Eiffel Tower.
and another place would definitely be the Vysehrad, city walls.

Plus there are surely many pubs, clubs, galleries, theaters, museums and so on you might be interested in

yeah, you have to be 21 to drink here

    they're crazy about checking IDs

the liquor store makes me show two different ids, and will ask me questions to verify where i'm from, number of letters in my name, so on and so on

bars in some places will let you get by, and not everyone gets carded 100% of the time, but people make a big deal about it, and in general if you're underage and you get in, you're just lucky. it can't be relied on.

wow. In the Czech we can legally drink since 18, but no one really cares. Once upon a time, cops come to some disco and there they surely find many people drinking under 18, but because I have never been going to disco, only rock concerts and normal pubs, I was never ever asked by cops to show them my ID. Actually I started going to pubs in the age of 14 and even the waiters never thought I was underage. When I came to "my" pub on my 18th birthday and told them it was my 18th birthday, they nearly got heart attack. :D

what i still can't get over with about czech is the amount of restaurants ..and most serving less than what i'd consider less
