"The most savage controversies are those about matters as to which there is no good evidence either way. Persecution is used in theology, not in arithmetic." -Bertrand Russell
Just read this poem again and it gave me chills. It's called "The Second Coming" Yeats. Turning and turning in the widening gyre The falcon cannot hear the falconer; Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold; Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world, The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere The ceremony of innocence is drowned; The best lack all conviction, while the worst Are full of passionate intensity. Surely some revelation is at hand; Surely the Second Coming is at hand. The Second Coming! Hardly are those words out When a vast image out of Spiritus Mundi Troubles my sight: a waste of desert sand; A shape with lion body and the head of a man, A gaze blank and pitiless as the sun, Is moving its slow thighs, while all about it Wind shadows of the indignant desert birds. The darkness drops again but now I know That twenty centuries of stony sleep Were vexed to nightmare by a rocking cradle, And what rough beast, its hour come round at last, Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?
"everyone is baffled. If they're not baffled, they're deluded." -Moby, on the entire human race. It summed up the human condition quite well for me. I don't know why I was listening to a random Moby interview haha
...it's freaky you should mention that. I just read "Things Fall Apart" by Chinua Achebe, which gets its name and epigraph from this poem Turning and turning in the widening gyre The falcon cannot hear the falconer; Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold; Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world
Was in my fortune cookie and made me think about it.... "Everything that we see is a shadow cast by that which we do not see." Hmmmmm.....philosophical, to say the least..
Politics is the art of looking for trouble, finding it everywhere, diagnosing it incorrectly and applying the wrong remedies. Groucho Marx
