I don’t want to deal with pedophilia, although I’ve known men who have struggled with it and who absolutely would never have acted on it, I am confident (instead they “acted” on me as an adult).

So keep the nine year old girls out of it, even if that is historically the age at which a girl becomes sexually available in Islam (that’s how old Aisha was when Mohammad raped her). But adolescent sexuality, which we all know is very real, should not be off limits. I was sexually active in my early teens and am dealing with a not-quite-young-woman today who is in her mid teens.

 

I think you are quite right, but some men face that issue (women too). And some of them would not hurt a young child. I was molested as a little girl, and even though I was not physically damaged, I know it affected my life.

 

Some people seem to see my comment as supporting their actions, but nothing could be further from the truth. It is the decent guys (and as you say, women) who go through their entire life and have never touched a child that I feel sorry for.

I agree with you fully. My replies were purely regarding the mental trauma of the guy (or woman), it should never be allowed to become a reality.
Regarding Christina, what you say is also true and applies to other crimes such as rape and terrorism. But a PC if often the first response unless a file already exists on the case. Here in London, the CAD rooms are manned by civilian staff and would be sending the specialist teams out to dozens of false alarms otherwise.

If this is serious, you're gonna need some serious guidelines. I would look to professional groups that deal with sex addiction. Is there already a 12 step program designed specifically for the perverse averse? I'd be interested just for the stories behind step #3 "no longer looking at pornography."

The man had done his prison time. He lost his home (it was too near a school) his former employment, he was a lawyer, and I"m sure many friends and family. He had an adult woman friend. Since what he did was a felony, I'm not sure he can even vote anymore. Whatever neighborhood he moves into, there is an announcement in the mail that a sex predator has moved in your neighborhood. There are no such announcements for thieves, killers, animal abusers who've served their time. If someone is let out of prison, why is this scarlet letter attached to sex offenders only? I don't cotton to child porn (or other sex offenses) because in the long haul it means children were abused to create the stuff. But I do see the issue of being aroused by sex with children, a decided paraphilia, as something inborn. I've read that even therapy does not extinguish these desires completely. It's likely someone abused these adults as children and they develop these tastes. It doesn't happen to everyone who's abused. But compassion and tolerance are our highest callings besides love.

Ah VG, I want children to be safe too. Just as adults want to see S&M adult porn, there are those who want to see the same thing with child porn. I don't have those numbers, so I can't comment on what you mention. The point that the other poster and myself are making is that these people need help, more than likely, forever. Otherwise, don't let them out of prison. Is a pimp always a pimp, a drug dealer always a drug dealer, a money launderer, killer.... yet none of those people are branded forever because children (usually) aren't involved. I know you say killing them will rid the world of their sickness. But I don't believe everything is so black and white. If all the convicted sex offenders were dead tomorrow, would we be rid of sex offenders? No more than if we killed the others in my short list. Some is nurture, some is nature, some is socio-economic and all levels of shades of gray. No easy answers exist.

 

No respectable pervert would be seen dead in mc donald's or KFC. Really. Olive Garden and Chipolte is about as low as we slide.

 

I'm with VG. I'm normally a pretty compassionate person but i have no compassion for child molesters. Children who are sexually abused carry that around forever, they dont get ever get a break from the fact that someone stole their innocence at a young age so why should society give the person who robbed them of their innocence a break?

I have compassion for people who never act on it, who recognize what acting on it would do to a child and choose not to follow through . But I would be fine with the death penalty for those who act on it. And at minimum they should wear that scarlett letter and wear it loudly. It would be really irresponsible to allow these people back into society without making their crime public, parents who live around them absolutely deserve to know so they can keep their children away.
