Urgehal is also a black metal band with some death metal characteristics. And one I actually dig at times. Not my fav kind of BM but they're real catchy in their agression And goats are commonly associated with black metal for multiple reasons, not in the least because of the pagan/satanic symbolism. So its a valid association either way :-D I wish I could explain the difference in musical characteristics just as clear but always fail: certainly in english. I instantly hear it but can't describe it very well. I think Wikipedia does a decent job describing both genres
Example: (my fav part is the second half from about 3:30 onwards. But its partly because of how it differs from the part before so if one's intrigued.. ) The difference in lyrical themes is of course a generalisation, although spot on. Here they cross over (still some goat in there with the torment though )
Black metal to me is a very fascinating genre that is full of musical information(I'm a musician).....although, the production is by default not all that great. At any rate, Joe Stump(one of those neoclassical shred guys) has even incorporated black metal to his original compositions, and thankfully he was successful in making sure that the production remained fairly decent. Sounds pretty cool in my opinion. I definitely have a song, AT's original composition, so far that features some elements of black metal, too.
On my iPad. Wouldn't make any difference if I listened to it on a transistor radio or top of the line Bose house speakers, still sounds like hot garbage to me, man.
It makes all the difference for me. But i'm not trying to get you into it, I know that's futile BM is never hot btw, its grim & frostbitten!
Normally prefer rock of any kind really but every now and then I have the urge to do a hard workout to metal music... I’m not the biggest metal fan but I have some songs saved that I like... rock from all ages is pretty enjoyable to me though
