I thought it would be good to have an ongoing thread where we can remember our friends from the Hip Forums who've passed on. The Hip Forums have been going for about 7 years now (on various domains), and out of the 80,000 or so who've signed up, a few special ones have left this plane for another.

So I'll start it off by listing the first member to pass on, the Colonel. I never got to meet him in person, but he was one of the most interesting characters we've ever had here. He wrote some outstanding posts, always very insightful and to the point. It seemed he was from another age (an old hippie), who understood the changes going on around him. He had a great sense of humor and could always be counted upon to liven up a thread.

His passing was sudden. I got an email from a close friend informing me about it. It seems he spent a fair amount of his last months on the forums passing on his wisdom.

He's just one of several old hippies who've made their mark on this site.

    We miss you Colonel! :(

    R.I.P.

P.S. I think most of his posts were in an early version of the forum that we don't have archived or accessible at this time.

the hipchat room used to have philmcamera, and i know he passed away as well. He was a good guy and always seemed to be helping people. I still think of him, and what a nice addition to the crew at hipforums/hipchat. Someone said he had passed away, but didnt know why - only that it seemed to involve a boat. I thought I might hear more about his passing, but havent.

good thread skip, im sure there are others we should remember, philmcamera was just the first i thought of.

Philm was cool. He helped out often in chat and we got to chat occasionally. I really liked the guy!

Philmcamera...sweetest philmy! I miss him the most around chat and feel that he brought out the best in us and with his passing some of the good left too.
He always had time and a kind word for everyone. Talented photographer that shared many pictures new and old with us and many were reknowned musicians. He knew a good wine and great music and shared his knowledge with anyone that would ask. I will always miss him and I don't believe he ever really understood how many people he truly touched.
Samson, catch me in chat and I will tell you about it. Its not a secret but I would prefer to tell it only to people that knew and loved him too.

Dandelion. I'm not sure how active Danny was on the forums but I did get to meet him. Good friend that had a knack at cheering you up with a few words when it was needed most.

a poem i just found whilst looking through my late fathers things i thought very fitting for this thread

    Henry Scott Holland(1847-1918)
    death is nothing at all
i have slipped away into the next room
i am i and you are you

whatever we were to each other that we still are

call me by my familiar name, speak to me in the easy way
    which you always used to

put no difference in your tone ,wear no false air of solenimityor sorrow
laugh as we always laughed together at the same little jokeswe enjoyed
    play ,smile think of me

let my name be ever the household word that it always was
let it be spoken without effort, without the ghost of a shadow on it
life means all that it ever meant

it is the same as it ever was ,there is absolute unbroken
    continuity
what death is but a negligble accident?
why should i be out of mind because i am out of sight

i am waiting for you,for an interval, somewere very near
    just around the corner

    all is well

    nothing is past,nothing is lost

one brief moment and all will be as it was before.

I'm very new here, though have seen the passing of others on other forums.
It is a privelage to speak to the majority of people within communities like this. Regardless if you like a person or not, them passing on should atleast be remembered.
I share a thought for those above, and those that invariably will come below me.

Good idea, Skip. Last month I found out by 'accident' that a friend had passed... shouldn't happen that way.

he used to come on when i was on....kind of my shaddow.........
I still see him in the shaddows
I feel him on the wind
And i hear him in the silence.

The hardest part was not being able to say goodbye. The parramedics say his body was shattered when they pulled him from the wreckage and he died on impact so i think that was a good thing in a way cos he didn't suffer
