Michael Hutchenson dies of a heroine over dose in the film & then in real life some years later he does the same.

    A must see

Yeah for the Castle, Bad Boy Bubby, Two Hands and a whole bunch more.

Just to be pedantic though - The Piano was set in New Zealand and directed by a New Zealander (Jane Campion). It's a New Zealand film. And we are a whole different country than Australia (no matter what you've heard) :)

yeah wow i didnt realise how many fantastic movies we aussies make! moonbeam, how could i forget bad boy bubby, what a crazy movie!
u guys mentioned most of my faves, including picnic at hanging rock and walkabout. Another fantastic more recent one is Ten Canoes, the first feaure film in traditional language. A must see.
I have seen a couple of absolute Australian duds lately, which made me feel almost embarassed. 48 Shades, and Josh Jarman, anyone seen them? so very cringe-worthy.

Rolf de Heer's works are truly amazing. I highly recommend Bad boy bubby, Alexanda's Project and The Tracker to anyone interested in Australian cinema.

Actually it is a New Zealand movie. Maybe that is why I could not understand what it was on about.

but most of the time our accents annoy me on screen. dunno why.

I agree. I think it's because a lot of the time the actors make their accents really strong on screen, so as to appeal to the international market, even though no one talks like that anymore.

The last good local film I saw was Noise. It was beatifully shot, and the ending was brilliant.

My FAVOURITE would be Priscilla, but there's a ton of great ones. Muriel's Wedding is hilarious too. I love so many great Aussie actors! Especially Guy Pearce and Geoffrey Rush.

I saw Charlie and Boots recently. Paul Hogan is now an old man and he is just unrecognisable apart from his voice. I remember when one scene was filmed in Hay and the scene is in Hay.

It never reached any dramatic highs , but there is great cinematography and an accurate of snapshot of rural Australia.
