What's happening with the place now? It was two irish guys who bought the old church in the early 90's and converted it, made them millionaires overnight and now they own a string of bars across Manchester.
I heard the place shut down a couple of years ago. Are you saying the university bought it and turned it into a Yate's wine lodge? I hope not.
All but a distant memory to me now. I'm still in touch with some of my old cronies from there, about fucking time I stopped by Piccadilli station for a visit. Over 15 years since I was in Manchester now!

I guess it will have. Hacienda is no more and Sankeys just closed down last year.

21 years ago it was £1 a pint of John Smiths at the Met (which recently featured in some scenes of Fresh Meat) and there was a student night at 5th Avenue every Thursday, me and my mate used to go there and get wasted on the 50p for two bottles of pils offer.

^lol just reading this. I worked that night every weekend for over two years. It was a fucking meat market, would have been shut down by health & safety now if it was being run the way it was then.

The Bop was run by a guy called Paul Bennet, and last time I was ever in Jabez was just after 9/11 and apparently Bennet had been visiting the WTC two weeks before that happened. He thought he was the king of student club nights, used to write the same shit set list for the DJ every night and make him end the night with New York by Frank Sinatra.
