The duet by Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers, "Islands in the Stream," a 1983 mega hit, was the second to reach #1 on the pop charts for each of them. Prior to that, they'd each had a #1 solo pop hit.

However, the song was written by the Bee Gees (for Marvin Gaye), and the Bee Gees recorded their own live version in 1997.

Also, Barry, Maurice, and Robin Gibb are arguably the most famous people in history, living or dead, born/raised on the Isle of Man. Pop culture icons, they may fade into obscurity in time as some of the notable inventors, scientists, writers, and politicians from the Isle of Man have already done. Famous younger brother Andy Gibb (not a Bee Gee) was born in England.

They also came out to Australia as teenagers with their parents. They played many gigs in pubs and clubs, got a recording contract after appearing on a TV talent show. While in Australia their records were not a hit. It was only when they moved back the UK their careers took off.
Yes they also wrote song many other artists.

Great song, but If the song was Inspired by the Aberfan, South Wales mining disaster of October 21, 1966, why call it the New York Mining disaster of 1941?

According to Robin, there was a mining disaster in New York in 1939 and ‘New York’ sounded more glamorous. Not sure as to why 1941 was referenced.
