I was watching a tv show I had recorded about those attacks in Reunion and other stuff about sharks. One of the information given was that shark feeding may change shark behavior. The example was when they hang food from a boat and lemon sharks left the bottom, where they normally swim, and went close to the surface, where the food was. I have taken part in a few shark feeding excursions, the most striking in Fiji (for bull and tiger shark, in Beqa). On the one hand it seems like a good idea to get people close to them, so that there are more of us in love with sharks. On the other hand, if it can be the culprit in causing sharks to change their behavior and even become a threat to humans, then, it can't be good.
I have no idea why someone would want to get that close to an animal that big, powerful and with a mouth full of things that sharp. It seems like tap dancing on landmines to me. If it causes a change in shark behavior by making them want to get close to boats to eat things being thrown at them, then it's a horrible idea. I'm aware that shark attacks on humans are very rare - I think I read somewhere that more people are killed by cows each year than sharks - but that's mostly because people tend to have the common sense to avoid sharks, and sharks tend to not be in areas too close to people. It's probably a good idea to keep it that way. A healthy fear for something as big and dangerous as a shark is the best thing for both our species. We keep our distance, and we avoid getting a leg or two ripped off by a predator so effective at killing that it hasn't needed to evolve much at all in millions of years.
They look very majestic when you are in the water with them but I just want them to swim by and keep going
Bit of both. Sharks are scavengers anyway and will investigate things if the want a feed. Not sure a few tour groups are going to change their behavior too much. Been in a cage with great whites and can say it was unreal. I'd do it again tomorrow if i could
Farewell and adieu to you fair Spanish ladies. Farewell and adieu to you ladies of Spain. For we've received orders for to sail back to Boston. And so never more shall we see you again.
Do it. Just do it. There's no guarantee of sharks but i saw at least 3 different Great Whites. Was a great experience. Beers on the steam back and dolphins escorting. Good times
Against! But if your gonna do it, beware if your bitten, your travel insurance wont cover you... and your part of the problem why sharks go too close to people..
