It's a powerful firecracker. I think it originated in the military to simulate explosions.

I think it was the equivalent of 1/8th of a stick of dynamite. I think it contained 80 mg of flash powder. I'm dating myself here because I don't think they are available to the public anymore. It was kind of popular in the 80s and 90s.

I think a companion thread is needed...
What's the Worse thing you did in school that you got away with? That might be more fascinating, lol.

That would be an x rated adventure and I'm not sure if I'm allowed to share outside of certain boards. I was also in a treatment center at the time, so it was rather impressive that someone like me managed to get away with it. I'm not sneaky, and don't get away with very much.

Got caught smoking in the boys toilets. I got 6 of the best for that, across the inside of my knuckles on both hands. Boy did that hurt!

Another time, sneaked into the girls toilets at the school pool, to find out what a sanitary dispenser was, I'd never seen one before, so two of us went in there after school. We got caught by the caretaker. I got another six of the best for that, this time on my arse. That hurt a lot as well!

I left school as soon as I was old enough, because I couldn't stand the attitude of the teachers, particularly the Head and the Deputy Head. So at 15 and a half I took myself out of education and went to work. No more canings for me.

All part of life's rich tapestry.

I did go back to education in my mid 20s when I became a mature student at the University of Kent at Canterbury, Canterbury Kent, at the age ot 25. However, due to never having actually written an essay in my life, I struggled, so took a year out after my first year, but decided to go back again and try once more.

This meant that my 3 year degree was spread over 4 years, and I graduated with a BA in history in 1979, having started in 1975.

    The M stands for military.
They were originally designed to simulate artillery fire.
In most cases they have been illegal since 1966, you need a license to own one.

I just recalled a protest at my high school back in 1967 or 8,
We used to have fraternities, or gangs, and we would wear jackets with insignias on them.

I was the treasurer for Phi Kappa Psi. We didn't know there was an actual college fraternity by that name.
My job consisted of collecting dues, anywhere from a quarter to a dollar, from new prospects at the two meetings we had at the local bowling ally.
Then we'd give the money to some black guy called Biz who would buy us a case or two of beer which we would then take to our headquarters in the "president's" basement and drink it ll up without telling the new prospects where we were.
We'd also pan handle chicks at the mall for quarters and promise to invitee them to our next party.

Rival "fraternities" at the school were RAW, (Rape All Women), they were dorks, TKD, (Tap a Keg Daily), also dorks, and then each local town had their own variations.

Anyway we would wear jackets, like letter man jackets with the letters on the front, at school. Except me, 'cause I was into sports and if I got caught wearing one of those jackets I'd get thrown off the team.

Anyway, the school board decided the jackets were a bad deal and banned them at the school.
This led to a school wide protest which involved a walk out by hundreds of students. Our high school had an excess of a 1,000 kids.
They would meet each morning across the street from the school and yell and jump around all day, then go home.
Again I didn't join in as I'd get kicked off the team I was on.
This went on for several days until the big wigs declared that anyone still protesting would be expelled and those who returned to class would be "pardoned".
    That's when the protest collapsed.

Our "president" was latter expelled for punching the principal in the stomach.
