" It's not so black and white, it's far more complex than that." We are accused of submitting naively simplistic solutions for lack of appreciation of the grand scope and elegant complexity of the problem. However, I would say not by accusation, but in appreciation, that complexity only has appeal for the confused. Solution is, "equal dispersal." Complexity is a collection of precipitants, a weaving together or "plaiting," of unlike things to function as a whole. We create a complex. To create a complex, complicates things. To find a solution, we pare down the variables. We simplify. "Simplify, simplify, simplify." To the culturally emasculated, the difficult, the extreme, the daunting, or the challengingly complex, become very sexy. The basic, the mundane, the ordinary, or the easily accomplished seem unworthy of our attention. From an indoctrinated sense of essential unworthiness, we seek to claw our way out of depravity, to achieve some value by way of a device we refer to as accomplishment. As sensible as this pursuit appears to be, in a space time continuum, the luster of accomplishment quickly fades into obscurity in the glare of prescient contingency. This is a profound and redundant pattern of nature. "Redundant," present participle of redundare, "overflow," from undare, "rise in waves," from unda, "wave." Understand that we cannot alter the trajectory of the planet. We cannot stop the tide from rising and falling according to its' own rhythm, nor would such a thing be desirable. To do so would paralyze your diaphragm and suspend all functioning of the binary planetary system known as earth moon. This is indeed a black and white unambiguous issue. As black as night and and white and day. This process has a single self asserted meaning, it is devoid of rhetorical purpose. This issue is not open to debate. So perhaps at this juncture we have grown from being naive to defeatist, without moral compass or any vision of redemption as we roll our eyes and shake our heads as if from the stench of, "from unda" cheese. From uninformed to ignorant. Please! I know that shit stinks. We are not free to determine the measure of our inheritance. It is patently not true that we can leave the world a better place than when we found it, nor can we preserve nature for our progeny! It is true that we can bear children and pass that capacity on to them. While we may no stem the tide, we can learn to surf. While we cannot, "prevent flooding" we can, build on higher ground. I may not make a better world or life for myself or anyone else, but I am welcome to master the one I am given and I am welcome to help my children learn to do the same. If it is possible for us to fail, than our only mortal danger is in being irrelevant, or of sleeping through the whole affair. If we must claim for ourselves a function to complete our sense of well being, to enjoy or appreciate, imparts far greater value than the "pursuit of happiness." I hope this clears up any grey or obscure areas and perhaps even brightens your day.
We need a David Hume sub-forum; this sounds like continuity and resemblance. The last part, (lip smack, gulp); who can surpass to the stage above happiness? The load on your ego, or the analyzed consorting group? This belongs in another forum. Nice try.
Sure, I don't know who David Hume is but I am situated according to your arrangements and willing to follow where you would lead.
A lot of your posts appear to be an over-intellectualization of very basic philosophical principals - ie. mastery of one's immediate world, personal responsibility etc. In other words, you're not really saying anything new to the philosophically savvy, and while the "everyman" could afford to learn a few things from you, they'd only truly benefit if you translated your work into layman's terms. But I work as a delivery man and I have only read 10 books this year, so the problem could lie with a lack of understanding on my own part. I certainly respect your colourful way of writing and the effort you put into expounding and exploring your ideas.
Utterly serious, life is precious. I was given life so there is nothing I could want from it so I give it all I've got provided I am awake. Not to worry though. We all come out whether we are attentive to the fact or not.
