Yes, you're getting it. Just practice the conscious breathing as often as you can, and also observe your mind and what it does and tries to do. You don't have to try to change it or stop it, just simply observe. It's really quite incredible when you realize how much it controls your life and your sense of peace. But, it's really cool Pellinore... you at least have the awareness of the difference between the two states. Now it's just a matter of deepening and with practice the peace will increase. You'll love it! :)

Thanks alot for everything, i've gotten alot of realisations thanks to you, and managed to get rid of atleast some doubts i had :).

Btw, going to nepal in august, visiting katmandu for a week and then going to hike into the himalaya for another week, that will be awesome.. but still doubting if i should try to smuggle some hasj, sounds like an unique opertunity to light a joint in the middle of the himalaya... however i'm trying to stop with my drug habits.

Hey Pellinore, that's way cool! Have fun!!

And here's one more for the road :D... I would suggest you not try to repress or deny yourself something you really want. If you want to light up a joint then do it. Repression is really nothing but self deception. Take a look periodically to see if you can experience this moment as it is, without any helping agent. See if you can tune in to the moment so deeply that it feels full and fulfilling as it is. And if you still want something to add to it, then do it & don't worry about it.

But pay attention to that mechanism in you that wants to always add to this moment, as if this moment itself is not enough. After a while you may notice that you naturally no longer desire to add a helping agent, and then there's no effort and no struggle about it. This is true renunciation (not rejection) where we naturally set something aside because we truly have no more interest in it. Until then, do whatever you want and be sure to enjoy it fully!!

Aah man, yet again very true, by not putting limits on your own actions and behaviour (e.a smoking a joint) you can more freely develop your mind then those who put rules and other limitations on their minds, - rules are a rape of the mind? Rejections are self-induced rules? :p.
I guess, as long as pot and hasj don't become a leading part of life, it's ok to use it in order to experience life at another level, and i guess, the urge will slowly vanish in time.

Ah, between inner and outer is the merest veneer of mind. The spiritual journey is about turning the key to that, which means to turn the key of cognition and wisdom. Ie., to work directly with cognition and wisdom is the whole journey.

If you change your perception you may uncover a whole other world right here. The path is about that change in perception and the wisdom which arises from it.

Material world doesn't provide the comfort for the heart on its own, but when combined with a lighter frame of reference with more possibilities the material world becomes a field of all possibilities.

How to lighten ones frame of reference?

Yeah, it's not that rules are bad, but they're more for the sake of society, not so much the journey of spirit. At some point we need to relinquish rules and just tune in to the wisdom within. And yes, rejections are self-induced rules... :).

Have a great time, Pellinore! That's a place I'd love to visit also. If you can, post a picture or two when you get back.
