heya!!! thot id just drop a line and ask if anyone knows of anything interesting...anyone heard of john martyn?
yes! i was going to see him about 2 or so years back, but he cancelled the gig, then rebooked it, but it turns out that was when he had his troubles and lost his legs i believe? ooh i dunno cant remember but anyway john martyn is grand, he was great friends with nick drake... worth checking out the following people also if you like john martyn, i can send you tracks of any of the following if you'd like Richard Thompson, Fairport Convention, Devendra Banhart, Souad Massi, Jan Akkerman, Tim Buckley, John Renbourn, bert jansh, roy harper, ooh i dunno, there are lots but some of those are rather good fun!
The Incredible String Band are well worth checking out.start with '5000 spirits or the layers of the onion' or 'Changing Horses' Great english/scottish folk music with indian and african influences and instruments with a nice psychedelic touch
I only listen to folk rock as far as the folk genre, if you'd like some good folk rock recomendations.
i love fairport convertion...sandy denny "who knows where the time goes" was what my mum used to sing me to sleep with!! and yes please to the offer of some samples..that b soo great. wat a bugger about john martyn tho..i feel for you , i really do! excuse the ignorance but who's nick drake wen he's at home? ive heard of him from somewhere....hmm. i havent heard of any of the other ones but im open to any thing. ranch-ill hav a look out for them and ill get bac to you! carl-as i said im open to all suggestions!
nick drake WILL change your life, i can email you songs, he's a must he really really is... he's not trad folk, but he WILL just pick you up throw you against a wall...and do it with a feather, he's amazing...

I must say that is a very, VERY good band! i will add a few for everyone to check out: The Strawbs - one of the most under rated folk bands of all time, beautiful lyrics, very poetic Fairport Convention Delirium Gentle Soul - very pleasant sounding late 60s folk Itoiz - very beautiful, mostly instumental from Spain Amazing Blondel - some of the most pleasant folk I have ever heard Aphrodites Child Gravy Train - good english folk rock Mellow Candle - Irish Folk Rock, beautiful female vocals The Trees Rupus Zuphall - Germanys anwser to Jethro Tull and a very good anwser at that Tom Waits Triode - The flute player studied under Ian Anderson and is just as good. Beautiful instumental music from France with lots of Flute If anyone is intersted, PM me.
