Earlier there was a discussion when someone said that nudists should not wear shoes. This is not what I'm asking; I'm just interested in the general behavior of a lot of you. Do you wear footwear in the house? In the yard? While taking a walk? While driving your car? Visiting friends? Or non threatening casual shopping? I'm not necessary expecting that each person be consistent in their answer....

    Do you wear footwear ...

    in the house?

    never
    In the yard?
    rarely
    While taking a walk?
    maybe 50%
    While driving your car?
usually not during summer. I feel much more safe driving barefoot than in sandals or flipflops.
    Visiting friends?
depends on the circumstances. If i go there barefoot, of course i stay this way. If i come shoed, i have to check out the situation. A lot of my friends go barefoot at home anyway, so i do too of course
    Or non threatening casual shopping?
rarely in summer, often in winter

Shoes to me are like a harbor to my physical soul, I feel comfy and protected sporting the right footwear, tho free and careless when shoeless. On a day to day I usually wear about 20% shoes :)

Codger ...this is my pattern ... I try to use shoes as little as possible. Normally will be barefooted inside home ..and use flip flops for outside. Leather flip flops are most confortable and are as close as you can get to be barefooted while protecting your soles. I use Birkenstocks for some ocassions, Rafting sandals (chaco) for trekking, weekend outing, etc. and flips for city walking/shopping. In nude beaches ...barefooted or Chacos, nude resort ...all of the above.

Hey its my first post! While bare feet are great mine need to be covered if I'm walking.
I don't think of it as clothing but as protective gear! A hat is among my other prefered protective gear.

    Nope, never.

    Nope.

    Nope

I don't own a car, but I use public transport - almost always barefoot, too.

Nope. They know me as a barefooter, and they'd react bewildered if I wore shoes :)

Nope... and I'm wondering what "threatening shopping" could be...

So much for the little questionnaire. As far as wearing shoes as a nudist/naturist topic is concerned, I feel simply that if I wore shoes, I wouldn't be nude. And for those wondering why I put an "almost" up there once, it depends on temperature and weather conditions... in frosty conditions, there's times and places for footwear to be worn. If I lived in a warmer region, I'd ditch shoes forever and never think about putting them on ever again. :D

    Wiggling bare toes, happily,

I wouldn't give too much credibility to people stating that nudists shoudl not wear shoes. Stuff 'em.

Yes, I wear CROCS (silicone moulded sandles) or scuba shoes around the house; the terracotta tiles are usually cold and a bit dirty. No shoes for sex (I've often been reminded, though...). Shoes are worn when walking, very especially shoes+socks for nude overnight bushwalking and certainly when driving. I often wear scuba shoes on the beach when photographing around sandstone rocks (sandstone is very, very sharp) mostly to afford a little bit more protection from discarded syringes or broken glass.

Thanks for the reply Oznorth, the name is 'kaalvoet' ,meaning barefoot in my language, AFRIKAANS. I studied theology, and because i always attended lectures all year arround barefooted,I recieved the nickname of "St. Francis of Stellenbosch" university by my one professor of ecclisiology.Stellenbosch had no definate dress code, and still does not have, and about one in every twenty students, irrespectable of faculties, attends lectures barefoot, and to see barefoot students on campus is nothing odd. My one buddy,a guy from England,on an exchange student bursary, doing his doctorate in philossophy never wore shoes as well, the few times i did have shoes on in the winter,he was stil barefoot.Later on,a few more of my classmates also started attending barefoot.I did a count one day of barefoot students in th theology faculty at lunch time in the caffeteria....35 students io a faculty of just over 300 students, and that's 10%. Basically, that could total 10% of al students atending university are barefooters. BELIEVE ME! All those places i mentioned,i realy go barefoot,it lifts exebrows, but those to,being South African, also grew up barefoot, even in our richest suburbs, barefooting is common place

Fascinating insight into African lifestyle. I dips my hat to the freedom you enjoy. Not that I'm afraid to go barefoot: I do, but lots of broken glass and other stuff littering the footpaths and roads and in my youth I had a tetanus scare, so very, very wary.

At the Christmas ConFest held here in Australia, we usually get real and very loud African artists — drummers singing and belting out the (pattin juba/walkaround) in Afrikaans close to NYE and on NYE itself, and a lot of people a dancing around and around and around nude and barefoot in the heat and dust of the night by a blazing bonfire — it's a wall to wall juba! We absolutely love it, getting atrociously getting filthy and smelly!!

Are you studying Theology, given your mention of the Professor of Ecclisiasti....blub, blub...sorry, lost the spelling and pronounciation...LOL!! :p:p

In South Africa, being barefoot is a normal thing.85% of all primary schools are barefoot schools, and in many schools they encourage the kids to rather attend school barefoot. In our church, almost all the kids attend barefoot, and a few adults.

As a boy, I never wore shoes in the summer and we have long summers here. I still don't wear them when I am in a casual situation. Your feet make their own leather if you give them time to toughen.
But there are some environments that are so extreme that feet need protection.
Feet need air for optimum health, but at times they need protection. Decide for yourself when to go bare or shod.

When I'm nude around the house [most of the time], I'm barefoot. When I'm out and about, I like wearing flip flops or lately, Xero Shoes [ http://xeroshoes.com/ ]. Very comfortable!

No shoes when naked. Flips when going out or driving.
