I've posted this one on all the forums for alternative living.

Just wondered what the reaction from your family and friends has been for what they may see as a leftfield way of life, especially if like me some of your family is quite rigid and conservative.

As for my friends, while some of them would never go nude outside the bedroom or bathroom they have a chilled out attitude and have long since accepted what they see as my unconventional ways, none of them have an issue with me being a bit different.

Just as well really otherwise they wouldn't be friends!

    :iagree:

Well, those knowing about my preference of being nude know what to expect, when visiting me at my place... I won't put on clothes for them. And some of my friends are happily nekkid at home as well, and also happily shed their clothes when visiting me (or, vice versa, I happily disrobe when visiting them, too).

Wiggling a happily and naturally nude man's toes,

I have wondered this as well and my family knows but doesnt disrobe around me. My big concern was friends of our children knowing about our lifestyle but it seems to not be a problem. They know to call before coming over and we all make sure to be dressed before they arrive. It does make for some pretty funny jokes around the house though for their friends and I can tell it is helping them become more confident just knowing someone who is a naturist. They are actually more comfortable around us than their own families and have never seen any of us nude.

Most of my friends and (rare) relatives approve if i stay naked when they come visiting me. There are a few who have a problem with, so as a kind of consideration for their 'handicap' i put something on if they are with me. Maybe some here might say they can't be real friends, but i guess they are and just try to accept them with their live background and restrictions

Though most of them don't care to meet me naked at my home, only some approve me baring in their own home. Usually the others worry about neighbours' gossip, their reputation or something like this. Usually i do accept their misgivings and don't try to persuade them to let me go nude though. With the friends accepting me nakes at their home i usually went through a precess of approach to this thought. For example my boyfriend's sister and hubby first saw me naked staying together at the beach, then in my own flat, and some day when i felt the time was ripe during a visit i asked them for their ok to go bare, and got it. A long thime they asked me to put something on outside the house in the litlle garden, but even in this detail there's a growth: last weekend we did barbecue outrside and they said "you can stay this way" when i just wanted to grab my pareo cloth when i went outside. Maybe they had found out that their neighbours are not so cuel ;-) On the other hand, they both share nudity at the beach since then and really enjoy it.

There are only a few friends (and not any relatives) who take the chance and go naked too if we are together both in my home as in their's. Of course everyone is free to take off clothes visiting me, but only some make use of it. Sometimes it arises during a longer stay or over some visits, but i don't force them.

Family do not know and have no reason to, as clothes free activities for me are swimming, saunas and sunbathing. They would be offended and I have no wish to upset them. Friends know if they take part themselves.

I agree with some of the above posters. My nudism/naturism isn't really something I care to advertise to my family. I do it for my own reasons and it doesn't interfere with my regular life. It's a way of de-stressing that I wouldn't expect them to understand and don't want to force them to confront it as it would make them uneasy. I lay enough hints that I don't think anyone would be surprised.

I have been nude in my home for about 20 years now. When my husband became best friend with his co worker, he'd told him about our lifestyle. When he came over for dinner, I'd stayed nude. So after a while they invited us to come over to their place for dinner. After trying to decide what to wear, I just left naked. I often leave the house naked anyway. When we got there, they opened the door to see me. His wife said she couldn't imagine me with clothes on and was glad that I came over naked. After we ate, we sat down and she admitted to me that not wearing clothes suits me very well. So to this day, they never saw me with clothes on and it has been 8 years. All of my family and friends accept me and my family nude.

My friends all approve, even though they aren't nudists. I don't dress for anyone who visits either. I'm very comfortable with my body, so it doesn't matter to me if everyone else is dressed. If a visitor is uncomfortable with it, I'll sit in a modest position, but I won't dress. If someone is so uncomfortable with my nudity, that they can't tolerate it, then I'm not comfortable with them anyway. Being naked is very much a part of who I am, so if I can't be myself around you, I'd rather not be around you at all. I don't insist that anyone else take their clothes off, so I expect them not to ask me to put mine on.

I am the same way. Before we got married, he preferred me to always be nude. I came downstairs one day and his parents were there. They watched me fix breakfast and when I was done, I came in the living room. I didn't know they were there. I said I was going upstairs to get dressed, they said they saw me for awhile and what was the point now. So I'd stayed. After that, the only time they saw me dressed was at my wedding. Last Thanksgiving, we went to his parents house. I left our house with only my purse. We took that 3 hours ride and arrived. They were alittle shock to see me there. I asked them if it was ok. Later on, his brother and everyone else said it was fine if I came over nude since they are use to me. But they never saw me traveling nude. We spent 2 days there. Now, about once a week, we have pool and bbq parties. About 20 people show up. My best friend, comes over naked and one else can too.

Quite often when I'm at home, I'm nude and my roommate doesn't mind a bit. He won't go nude though. I've got a good friend who comes over quite a bit and he knows I like being nude. Doesn't bother him. I have no family around where I live so I don't have to worry about family! :)

I don't really give a damn if they approve or not. I'm a grown man. What I do in my home and leisure is my business. If they don't like it then I guess they can go pound sand somewhere else.

My friends and family do not know that I'm a nudist. However, I would love for them to share with me the joy I have being nude whenever and wherever I can. It's hard finding nudist friends. How do you bring up the topic of nudism and not scare them off?

You can't! I'm afraid it's one of those topics. You've just got to tell or not tell, and they will either run away in shock or respect your choice :)

    Shakti,

I think they might run. LOL. I wish there was some type of a signal or something you can give to let them know you are a nudist. I remember reading one post where this family has put a sign up on the front door letting people know they are nudist. I'm not that bold just yet.

Definitely! It's no big sin. You're not from what you suggest having orgies or intending to offend anyone.
You're just getting naked. Nobody has to like your choice and some will not. You just gotta realise that that's life and this life is your life, live it your way.
If you have to compromise a little to get along with those you care about then so be it, put some clothes on.
It's all about balance and deciding what makes you happiest. Being focused on a need to tell small minded people could make you lonely.
