So I bought 113g (4oz) of fresh mugwort leaves from a local healthfood store yesterday to try them out. As soon as I got home, I packed a bowl and took about 6 or 7 massive hits in a row till nothing was left..then packed a second bowl immediately after, to make sure I'd get the effects (if there were going to be any). It created a very harsh smoke that was hard to take down..it tasted very leafy and heavy - but not as bad as smoking Damiana or a few other legal plants. If I had to describe the smell, I'd say it smelled like some sort of invasive weed burning (which is what it is, afterall)..not a very pleasant smell, but not unpleasant either - neutral.

The effects took about 30 minutes to hit me..very gradual effect. I started to get extremely tired, my body was tingling everywhere, like I could feel the electrical impulses going through my body (felt kind of creepy, tho) and became extremely relaxed to the point of feeling like my body wasn't even there...so about 2 hours later, I lay in bed, having a few waking dream-type moments before falling asleep (hearing strange noises in my environment, and seeing some strange colors while my eyes were closed). I could hear my heartbeat, which was a little strange to say the least! After that, I sort of blacked out, lying flat on my back in bed (I usually can't sleep this way and have to sleep on my side). I had a very vivid dream. I was somewhere in Pennsylvania (where I've never been, btw)..it felt like I was fully conscious and awake in my dream (yay, a lucid dream!), I had full control over all my movements and actions. For some reason, I decided to enter this house to look for drugs. So I fly through the screen door window and begin to search the house, meanwhile I decide to use this strange power I had to cause things to burst into flames, burned some papers (not sure why, but I knew I had to for some reason) in the fireplace in the den..then proceeded to the upstairs. Lights were on everywhere, but that didn't deter me, and I didn't even give it a second thought, for some reason. I go exploring the master bedroom...there's a large bed with two lamps on either side, white carpeting, a walk-in closet, and a shower straight across from the bed facing the left..I turn the light on to see if there's anything I find interesting..nope, so I proceed to the hallway area. Suddenly, I hear someone brushing their teeth and immediate think I better get the hell out of here! As soon as that happened, I flew down the staircase at lightning speed and got jolted back to my body, and finally woke up (about 20 minutes ago, now), remembering everything like it actually happened.

Anyway, I was even able to read out of an address book lying on the table when I was in that house. It was so vivid. Mugwort is definitely a dream potentiator..and I can definitely see how it could be used to astral project.

Before the experience, I hadn't had a lucid dream since I was 11 years old..and have only had a few in my life. Recently, I haven't been dreaming at all (well technically yes, but not remembering anything happening from when I go to bed to when I wake up)..so it was pretty damn surprising!

If you enjoy lucid dreams and astral projection, go for mugwort. It'll get you there. If you want to get high or fucked up for fun, then mugwort will disappoint you. It isn't really a psychoactive drug. The effects take place during sleep. I might try it during the day sometime just to see if the experience is any different..I still have a massive amount of it left.

I feel extremely well rested, too, and my vision seems a bit better (more focused) today than it normally would be. My thoughts flow very well and I still feel a bit of the relaxed feeling I felt last night.

    Anyway, I'm off for now...

    Cheers.

apparently the witches use/d it for spells, to fly around, and have lucid dreams (dreams where one has full control) etc.

the flying part referring to astral travel, of course..not actually flying on a broomstick. lol.

    MUGWORT
    [IMG]
    COMMON NAMES
Mugwort; Common Artemisia; Felon Herb; St. John's Herb; chrysanthemum weed; sailor's tobacco; moxa; Ai Ye; armoise
mugwort is coming into its own as a herb to facilitate vivid and lucid dreams, especially if you engage in mugwort smoking just before bed. On its own or smoked with another calming herb such as catnip, mugwort smoke can induce feelings of calm and mellowness lasting about 30-60 minutes, without making you feel clouded or “dumb”. Its calming actions alone make mugwort an excellent replacement for tobacco, but mugwort’s effects on deep sleep and dreaming are where things really get interesting.

The active compound in mugwort is thujone, an aromatic oil also found in wormwood, the plant used to brew the alcoholic drink absinthe. Consumed orally or by inhaling mugwort herb smoke or aromatic oil, mugwort can improve dream recall and sometimes induce lucid dreams when used shortly before bed. Some people recommend smoking mugwort and taking it as tea simultaneously to enhance its effects, or wrapping fresh mugwort in an aromatic dream pillow so you can inhale its active constituents as you drift off to sleep. Many mugwort users have reported the dream pillow method to be highly effective: the effects kick in as they enter the hypnagogic pre-sleep state, generating sensations of floating or rising upward that can translate into a lucid dream or even an out of body experience!

According to the anecdotal reports we gathered, what mugwort smoking seems to do is nudge your dreams in a more vivid direction. If you usually dream in black and white, for instance, mugwort may lend your dreams color; if you normally have some ability to steer your dreams, mugwort smoking may lend you a greater degree of control. So while you may not achieve mugwort-induced lucid dreams immediately, its gradual use can act like a stepping stone to help train your brain to achieve lucid dreams more regularly.

Mugwort is one of the power herbs that got us more than interested in the positive effects of herbs. How amazing that some Mugwort leaf placed under the pillow will not only induce colourful and lucid dreaming, but dreams of prophecy and meaning as well. For those skeptics out there – try it! One morning you will wake up after dreaming of something and you’ll witness its manifestation that very day. At the very least, you will experience colourful, medieval, astral, meaningful, pleasant, adventurous, and/or lucid dreams.
Smoking the herb directly into the lungs or as an evening incense assists these lucid dreams. Drinking the calming, liver cleansing tea before sleep seems to keep you longer in a conscious dream state (REM sleep).
